Having already announced the establishment of a team that will detect security glitches on Android-based devices from third-party vendors, it seems that Google is preparing to set up another team to troubleshoot the apps themselves. A job ad that appears on the company’s official website is looking for a senior manager to check out the said team, and will also become a hub of knowledge for the purpose of general improvement in the level of security enjoyed by users.
The job description includes quite a lot of detail about the role of the new team. It will perform tests of popular and sensitive external applications for troubleshooting and security errors. Uniquely, the same team will not only be alerted to the fault, but will also provide immediate solutions for it. It seems that Google does not rely on the cooperation of application developers, but sets up a kind of unit that will take care of closing security breaches as soon as they are discovered, in order not to endanger the users.
Another role of the team is to develop cross-cutting tools that will enable the creation of more secure applications, thus improving the level of security of all applications and not just those that are actively tested.
On the one hand, the establishment of the team indicates a recognition on the part of Google that apps for the Android operating system often suffer from various security glitches, and therefore need more professional support. On the other hand, it should be seen as another step of imposing authority and oversight on what is done in the app store – while Google allows itself to interfere at the code level in apps developed by external companies. The ad, however, does not include details of the exact date when the team is scheduled to begin work.
